Cognitive behavioral treatment for insomnia

January 5th, 2018 by Ima Admin

CBT-i is a non medication first line treatment intervention for chronic insomnia based on scientific knowledge about sleep.

Goals of CBT-i just like a sleeping pill are to help you fall asleep, stay asleep, and improve your daytime functioning as a result of better sleep at night.

The “cognitive” part of CBT-i focuses on thoughts, feelings and expectations about sleep and insomnia that may stand in the way of good sleep.

The “behavioral” aspect of CBT-i helps people adopt personal sleep habits that, based on the science of sleep, will help them sleep better.

CBT-i is as effective as sedative hypnotics (sleeping pills) during acute treatment (4-8 weeks) and more effective in long term (following treatment) without the side effects which are so common with sleeping pills.

Unlike other behavioral therapies, CBT-i is a focused and short intervention with usual treatment time of about 4-8 weeks.

At Supersomnia, we use cutting edge tools to deliver CBT-i without the hassle of multiple visits to a therapy office.
